Things to Do on Valentine’s Day as a Single Woman

I used to loath V-Day. It felt like a reminder of what I didn’t have. But there’s only so much sulking and complaining one can do. So in recent years, I’ve taken it upon myself to be more intentional about enjoying the holiday for what it is: LOVE. And that can be love in many forms. Obviously the most common is romantic. But there’s platonic love, familial love, love for your pets, love for God, and my favorite, love for yourself.

With that said, I wanted to share a few things to do for Valentine’s Day as a single woman (and even if you’re not single). These are just a few of the ways I like to shower myself with love.

  1. Go get your nails done: for me, a cute nail set is something that always puts me in a significantly better mood. On TikTok, I shared my VDay nails for this year and now I can’t stop staring at my hands.
  2. Pamper yourself: Whether that’s a facial, a full body massage, or getting your hair done, you absolutely deserve to treat yourself to a service that’ll make you feel your best. I am a facial girl so that’s my weapon of choice. But I recently got my hair washed, deep conditioned and steamed, trimmed, pressed and styled. I walked out the shop feeling like a brand new woman.
  3. Treat yourself to a nice gift: If I wasn’t doing my no buy until April, I would absolutely go and get myself a cute bag to commemorate the occasion. Treating myself to a little something is something I love doing for myself. Even better when it’s gift wrapped. Feels like unwrapping a Christmas present.
  4. Take a day trip somewhere: It doesn’t have to be directly on VDay, but you can use it as an excuse to treat yourself to a solo dolo trip to help center your mind and keep your peace.
  5. Go to dinner: Now, it can feel intimidating to this on a day like VDay, so if you’re not comfortable, do it the day or weekend after. Either way, a cute solo dinner is something I’m becoming more comfortable with doing these days.
  6. Shower your loved ones with gifts: They don’t have to be big, but sharing your love for them in a way that they would appreciate is something I always find admirable
  7. Be honest with yourself: It’s ok to honor your feelings. This list is not meant to negate whatever internal feelings you may have about being single on this day. It’s more so to help you prioritize the feelings. For me, I give myself the chance to be in my feelings, and then once I’ve felt what needed to be felt, I’ll go on about my day.
