Tips for Working Out at Home During Social Distancing

If you were following me on Instagram in 2019, you’d know that the beginning of 2020 marked a full year of me working out. *cues Marvin Sapp’s “Never Would’ve Made It”* I really didn’t think I had it in me, but then again, once I put my mind to something, there’s no stopping it. So of course, when 2020 came around I was ready to continue the momentum, and then the pandemic hit. And to be honest, I felt like my motivation took a little tumble when I realized I couldn’t go to my classes anymore. But after my little sulk session, I realized that it would just take a mental shift and some compromise to continue my fitness journey. So today’s post is all about my tips for working out at home during quarantine. Let’s get into it!

Have Set Days

When the world was open, I had a loose schedule when it came to the classes I took. Meaning that I sorta just went with the flow. I would go about 4 times a week but not on any specific schedule. Now, that type of process does not work for me at home. I realized I needed set days so that I could mentally prepare myself the day prior. Because although I feel great after a workout, I don’t always look forward to it. So for me, I usually workout Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday or Saturday. Thursday is my set running days, while Friday is more of a body weight workout (booty, abs, a combo of both). Tuesday is flexible and I choose what I want to do that day.

Start Running

If you have the ability to. Running has been one of the things that has helped me with keeping up my endurance and stamina. Since most of my time is now spent sitting at home in front of my computer (whether for my marketing job or for my content creator job), I have to really force myself to get moving. I find that running helps to get my juices flowing, provides me with some much needed endorphins, and helps me stay heart healthy. I run best when I have a lot on my mind and I’m able to think through those thoughts without any distractions. The Nike Run Club app helps me keep track of my miles, join challenges, and if need be, get coached while running.

Take Advantage of Fitness Trainers on IG Live

My girl, Katie, has taken her Booty cake class online and it’s been a game changer! Not only that, but she’s also added in different types of fitness classes for every level. Talk about knowing how to pivot! But there are many other fitness folk on the gram who are taking their talents Live. I say use Live because it sorta feels like you are there in the moment with them. They are encouraging and usually keep the energy going. Some others do Zoom meetings as well, which is helpful if you like to see others also working out.

Go Easy on Yourself

I mean, we are in a pandemic for goodness sakes. Our entire lives have been upended and we have been thrust into new territory. I have to remind myself of this because I have seen changes in my body, and my initial response wasn’t a positive one. I felt that the “progress” I was making went down the drain. But once I bought myself back to reality, I had to be ok with the fact that my body is just responding to the world around it. All I can do is help her feel her best while we get through this. So, maybe you’ve gained weight, lost weight, got some stomach rolls, a bit more cellulite, your face is fuller. It’s OK. You’re alive. I mean, that’s saying a lot given the circumstances.

Hope these tips for working out at home during quarantine are helpful! Let’s remember that going through a pandemic isn’t easy and our bodies will definitely have some changes, but if you’re wanting to keep up the consistency, then that’s all that matters!

Until next time..

Yes photos!!! Also, I’m with you on the working out struggle. These are good tips! I started doing MWF for my workout days and it’s definitely helped me. Also, I can’t wait for us to be able to take classes again 😩
