The Not so Basic Way to Style a Mini Skirt

The mini skirt has had its moments with me, from pairing it with spray painted tees spelling out “baby girl” when I was in high school, or going for the lowkey route with a basic tank top in my early college days.

It’s one of those items that, truth be told, I wasn’t the biggest fan of in my adult years. It shows A LOT of leg, and while I do love my legs, I tend to gravitate towards midi skirts that help to accentuate my shape. But for the sake of stepping out of my comfort zone, here we are with todays outfit, the not so basic way to style a mini skirt! And, summer is basically here so a mini skirt is to summer as sprinkles is to ice cream.

The thing is though, styling a mini skirt can be a bit tricky. For me at least. I’m not one to take the basic route especially when it comes to putting together skirt looks. So I wanted to sort of challenge myself to put something together that I could actually feel comfortable wearing out.

A blazer always puts me in my comfort zone and this one from H&M, that I wore in this style post, did the trick. Because it’s oversized, it helped to add some dimension to my overall look.

Some mini skirts I’m eyeing

For the top, I knew that a regular tee would not give me the oomph I was looking for, so after rummaging through my wardrobe, I opted for this frilly collar top from Who What Wear collection. I loved the drama and volume it give to my upper half and it paired nicely with the oversized fit of the blazer.

I chose a blue bag over a pink one because I wanted to bring out the base of the blue in the sandals even more so. These blinged out earrings are from Nasty Gal and I freakin love them. They add some glam to a casual outfit which I really like doing.

And that’s how I amped up this mini skirt! Below I share some additional mini skirts that I have my eye on for the summer!

Until next time…
