4 Simple Ways to Be Healthier without Breaking the Bank

Today’s post is focused on 4 simple ways to healthier without breaking the bank. I feel that the term “self-care” has been blown out of proportion and made into this “luxurious” experience, when in reality, self-care can be something that you do on a daily basis.

START JUICING. I promise you, you won’t regret. It takes a little bit of effort but you’ll save money in the long run (vs. buying a fresh pressed juice elsewhere) and you’ll feel great! See below for one of my go to recipe when I juice. This juice keeps the bloat at bay and helps to actually set the tone for my day. If I ate something pretty unhealthy the day before, drinking the green juice in the morning helps. You could also use it as a meal replacement. I’m not a breakfast eater, so drinking this juice as breakfast works for me.

DEEP BREATHING. We hold so much tension in our neck and shoulders, unknowingly. Between dealing with work and blogging and just overall life, stress builds up in different areas of my body. When I feel this tension at its brink, I literally sit and take very long deep breaths. Roll my shoulders and head, stretch my arms and hands. I’m telling you, it’s a game changer. And while I’m breathing, I focus only on my breathing which helps to calm me down.

GET MOVING. If you’re not someone who works out regularly, my best suggestion is to start off with doing one workout for 45 mins, once a week. After 2-3 weeks, increase your frequency to 2x a week, then 3x, etc. I would say work out up to 4-5x a week, leaving yourself 2 rest days in between. This is the approach I took. I knew that if I started off working out 5x a week, I would burn myself out and stop doing it. Gradually building up helped me develop a drive for wanting to actually work out and now, I look forward to it!

WORDS OF AFFIRMATION. Although this act is my love language, it’s something that I am actively starting to do towards myself. Whenever I start to feel a negative thought or emotion creep up, I combat it with a word of affirmation. For example, I have a belly pooch, and sometimes it makes me uncomfortable and I find myself in the mirror poking at it. Is this healthy?? Not at all! So what I’ve started doing is grabbing that same pooch and saying things like “Thank God for a stomach that digests food well”, “I’m grateful for the ability to even touch my stomach”. Now I know this isn’t something groundbreaking, but you’ll be so surprised how a simple mindset shift can actually help you think more positive, healthy thoughts.

| I’ve started using an app called ThinkUp that allows you to record your own positive affirmations. Sometimes you need to hear your voice on those days you don’t feel like encouraging yourself

And that’s it! Those are my 4 simple ways to be healthier! Hope this helps some of you!

Until next time…
