3 Reasons Why Using an Oil is Key to your Skincare Routine

Sealing your skin with an oil (not moisturizing), is definitely a step that will leave lasting benefits. There are a plethora of oils out there and not all oils are made equally (read…you can’t use Coconut oil for everything!). So I wanted to share this post on 3 reasons why using an oil is key to your skincare routine. I’ve been using oils for the last year and some change and can say, without a doubt that my skin feels so much softer and looks much more plump.3 Reasons Why Using an Oil is Key to your Skincare Routine

Seals in the moisture. Using an oil as the last step in my nighttime routine (and 2nd to last step in my daytime routine, before sunscreen) helps to seal in all the goodness I applied on it right before. Which is why, in my opinion, an oil should not be used as a moisturizer. Some people apply their oil before they moisturize, some people apply after. I’ve done both and am currently applying after I moisturize. Logically, it makes more sense for me to do it this way, as the oil locks in that moisture that I applied.3 Reasons Why Using an Oil is Key to your Skincare Routine

Promotes a healthy natural glow. Applying an oil helps to enhance the natural oils that are already produced by your body. If you have an oily skin type like me, don’t be afraid to use an oil! Attempting to dry out your skin by staying away from products that you think will make you more oily, will actually, do exactly that. Your skin will start overproducing the oil to make up for the deficit.3 Reasons Why Using an Oil is Key to your Skincare Routine3 Reasons Why Using an Oil is Key to your Skincare Routine

I use different oils for daytime and nighttime as well. In the daytime, I go for a lighter oil like the Organic Beauty Facial Oil from Honest Beauty, Fleuressence Oil from Goldfaden MD*, or the Organic Facial Oil from fellow blogger, Miss Enocha of Locks & Trinkets. At night, I go in with a heavier oil, switching between Farmacy’s Honey Grail and Pure Radiance Oil* from True Botanicals.

Great base for foundation. A great foundation base has been key for me lately and anything to ensure that I can get that, I’m willing to try. Applying oil as the 2nd to last step in my daytime skincare routine leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. So when I go in with a foundation (after applying primer), the product easily glides on my skin. This helps me to blend out my foundation more seamlessly. This also goes for BB and CC creams!3 Reasons Why Using an Oil is Key to your Skincare RoutineThere you have it! My 3 reasons why using an oil is key to your skincare routine.
